‘Uthamaputhiran’ is the forth coming film directed by Mithran R. Jawahar starring Dhanush and Genelia. This is the third film of Mithran R. Jawar with Dhanush as the hero after Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Kutty. Interestingly all the three films of Mithran Jawahar happens to be remakes of Telugu hits.
'Yaaradi Nee Mohini' was a remake of 'Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule' and ‘Kutty’ was the remake of 'Arya'. Now the third film ‘Uthamaputhiran is a remake of ‘Ready’.
The story of ‘Uthamaputhiran’ is a little intricate. Dhanush is a happy-go-lucky young boy in a large joint family of three elder brothers. Dhanush is the son of one of the brothers and studies from a hostel away from home. Dhanush is always helpful and always comes in when others need him. In one of his obliging acts he helps his cousin sister to elope with her lover against the family choice and this annoys the large family and he is asked to stay away.
On another occasion, here also to help a friend, Dhanush kidnaps Genelia on a mistaken identity from the marriage hall. When Genelia is kidnapped her uncles and their henchmen follow them. Genelia while on the run tells Dhanush that she wasn’t interested in the marriage and her uncles are forcing her marriage with one of their sons only to seize her properties. Geneleia refuses to go back and is resolute to stay with Dhanush. Later Dhanush also falls in love with Genelia and determines to marry her only with the consent of all the members of both families.
How Dhanush manages to convince the elders of the families and the methods he adopts to smoothen their hearts is rest of the story.

Like in Telugu, the Tamil version also has an impressive cast. Dhanush replaces Ram and Genelia D'Souza repeats her role in Tamil also. Other important actors in the film include K. Bhagyaraj, Aashish Vidhyarthi, Vivek, Mayilsamy, R. Sundarrajan, Jayaprakash, Karunas and Uma Padmanabhan.
Vivek’s character is also a talked about character in the film because Vivek plays an elderly character which is very pivotal to the story. It was said that Vivek was hesitant to play the elderly character and Dhanush was particular that only Vivekl play the role and the comedian gave in to the request of the hero. Remember the duo worked well in ‘Padikkathavan’ some time ago.
‘Uthamaputhiran’ is produced by Mohan Appa Rao and T, Ramesh under the banner Balaji Studios (P) Ltd. The film is expected to be a romantic action comedy, a genre which suits Dhanush best.
Vijay Antony scores the music and the music has come out well. Vijay Antony said “"Since Jawahar has a good taste for music, I could easily complete the album.”
The audio of ‘Uthamaputhiran’ was released on October 5 in Chennai in the presence of director KS Ravikumar and producers RB Chaudhary and Sun Pictures Saxena.
Dhanush had his last release ‘Kutty’ in January 2010 and is releasing his second film only in November 2010. ‘Uthamaputhiran’ scheduled for a Diwali release is expected to make Dhanush fans happy compensating for the big gap between the two releases.
