Jeeva Ilayaraja (60) wife of the music maestro Ilayaraja has breathed her last on Monday [31 October] night.

According to family sources, Jeeva complained of chest pain and was taken to Apollo Hospital at 9.30pm. Hospital sources said she died of a heart attack around 11pm.

The 60-year-old Jeeva is survived by husband Ilayaraja, sons Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja and daughter Bhavadharini.

Ilayaraja, who composed the music for Sri Rama Rajyam, was in Hyderabad by the time, to attend the press event of the movie. Ilayaraja returned to Chennai hearing the shocking news.

The entire Tamil film industry is in deep shock over her sudden demise. Celebrities are showering their condolence messages to the bereaved family. Film personalities are heading to Ilayaraja’s T Nagar house where Jeeva’s body has been kept for paying tributes to the departed soul.

Jeeva underwent a bypass surgery five years ago following heart problems. Family sources said the body would be taken to Pannaipuram village in Theni district for the last rites. The last rites will be performed on Wednesday, Nov 2, said reports.
