While the filmmakers from western continents prefer making films based on’9/11’ and Mumbaikars over ‘26/11’, Tamil Nadu doesn’t want to stop itself from expressing grieve over the tortures prevailing on the innocuous Eelam Tamilians.

Especially, Sathyaraj and Seeman have been actively striving for the betterment of lives down there. With an earnest attempt of bringing the realistic scenario into the lights, the crew has come up making this film titled ‘Uchchithanai Mukarnthal’. The film throws itself into the excruciating experience of a 13-yr old girl, who was gang raped by the Lankan army.

Produced by Global Media & Entertainment, the film is released by Gemini Film Circuit, which is churning out big tickets like ‘Mayakkam Enna’ and yet-to-release Shankar’s ‘Nanban’. The film is directed by Pugazhendhi Thangaraj and stars Neelika, Sathyaraj, Seeman, Sangeetha and Lakshmi in lead roles.

The film revolves around Natesan (Sathyaraj), a professor always bounded to the well being of Pro-Tamilians. His wife (Sangeetha) stands by his side rendering her support. Natesan is pushed behind the bars for his vigorous speech upon the problems of the cohorts. While a baby is expected by the couple, they come across a 13-yr old girl Punithavathi (Neelika) from Batticoloa shows up at her house. They get to know that the girl was allegedly gang raped by Lankan army. The couple find help in a sincere police officer Charles Anthony (Seeman). But they’re prone to an unbearable pain when they realize that the girl is affected with AIDS.

While the film boasts of versatile actors like Sathyaraj and Seeman, it’s young girl Neelika stealing the show with her fascinating work. She expresses the emotions of innocence to a greater magnitude. Sathyaraj plays his part well and Sangeetha goes very much adherent to the character. Seeman exhibits a ne plus ultra performance while Nasser and Lakshmi as doctors have done justice to their role.

Main motive of the entire team is about capturing the terrible problems of the Eelam Tamilians. On the dot, it’s a docu-drama style of work in aspects of both narrative and technical aspects. D. Imman’s musical score requires special mention and cinematographer Kannan is worth mentioning for his camera works.

Since, it’s a film based on a serious social issue, we cannot bring in more factors under ‘What works’ and ‘What doesn’t work’

It’s a film that deserves more promotion so as to enlighten the masses about the unsolvable problems of Eelam Tamilians in Sri Lanka.
