Legendary playback singer S. Janaki is said to be doing fine and is out of danger after she was admitted to the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences in Tirupati a couple of days ago.
The singer, who has won the coveted national award for ‘best female playback singer’ as many as 4 times, had been to the holy hills of Tirupati for a darshan of Lord Venkateswara.

73-year old Janaki hasn’t been active with her singing career for the past few years and has been signing very few numbers.  Fortunately for music lovers, her career coincided with the careers of another legendary playback singer S.P. Balasubramaniam and Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, the musician-par-excellence.  The combo of Janaki-SPB-Ilaiyaraaj had given many mesmerizing and unforgettable
melodies over the years.

A native of Andhra Pradesh and an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara, Janaki had been to Tirupati a few days back for worshipping the Lord. On the day the mishap occurred, she had darshan of the Lord early in the morning and returned to her hotel room to have some much-needed rest.

A few moments later, she slipped in the bathroom of the hotel and suffered injuries on her head.  Sources close to her say that she slipped and fell, with her head banging against the door hinges. Soon, she was rushed to the super-specialty ward of the SVIMS for further treatment.  Acting fast, the medicos quickly removed the blood clot just above the back side of her neck.

She is now out of danger, they said and added that the singer might be discharged today.  As she didn’t suffer any injuries on the brain, surgery wasn’t called for, hospital sources point out.  We’re only too happy to listen to the good news that Janaki is safe and healthy and wish her many more years of happy singing in future!
