Ajith, Dhanush battle for honours at SIIMA awards

Ajith, Dhanush vie for honours at SIIMA awards in Dubai
The South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) would be held on 21-22 June in Dubai and would reward the best works in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films.
This happens to be the first occasion when the Southern film industry would have its award function held in a foreign country.  It may be noted that the function to give away Hindi film awards have been held in various countries in the past few years.

Actor Madhavan and actress-cum-producer Lakshmi Manchu would be hosting the awards function in Dubai on the above-said dates.  Dhanush-starrer Mayakkam Enna, which was directed by his elder sibling Selvaraghavan, is among the films nominated under the ‘best film’ category.

In fact, Dhanush and Richa Gangopadhyaya (who starred in lead roles in Mayakkam Enna), have been nominated for contention to compete in the ‘best actor’ and ‘best actress’ categories as well.  This is almost a triple delight for Selvaraghavan.  However, Dhanush would have to contend with Ajith, who has also been nominated under the ‘best actor’ category for his role in last year’s Mankatha.

In fact, in a rare happening, Ajith has also been nominated under the ‘best actor in a villainous role’ for his character in Mankatha.  For any actor, it’s a rare honour to be nominated under two categories for a single role in a film.  That the honour has befallen Ajith is a testimony to the star’s commitment and dedication.
