Kamal to showcase Vishwaroopam at 13th IIFA

The 13th IIFA awards that usually exclude regional cinema is undergoing a change from this year. And its apparent with the increase in the number of Southern stars and technicians at the event.

The event at Singapore was kick started in the presence of Kamal Hassan and Shabana Azmi today amongst much excitement.Said Azmi, talking about the widening horizon of the awards to give a global platform to regional Indian cinema also,"

We are celebrating all of Indian cinema here which is not just Bollywood so this year we have also included cinema from the South, the biggest representative of which is Mr Kamal Hassan who is present here. Indian cinema is not homogenous, just like our culture, so IIFA is slowly trying to provide a global platform to regional cinema as well. This year we have South, we`ll slowly move to other regions as well,” said Azmi.

One of the highlights of the event will be the launch of excerpts of Kamal`s new film 'Viswaroop' ( Hindi) which will be showcased tomorrow at IIFA. The film is a multi-lingual one.

Speaking at the august gathering, Kamal said, “Indian film industry is diverse and I am happy that the 13th IIFA awards has included Southern cinema in its world, a world which also includes people like Shabana Azmi and Liv Ullmann. I am honoured to have got the opportunity to share the dais with these people and to show excerpts from my film `Viswaroop`."
