K Bhagyaraj's demands for 'Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiyaa' [Interview Video]
The heat refuses die on the controversy surrounding Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiyaa (KLTA), which veteran director K Bhagyaraj alleges is based on his Indru Poi Naalai Vaa.
While there have been reports that Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is distributing the film in Tamil Nadu, met with the director and compensated him monetarily (with Rs 66 lakh), Bhagyaraj said these were just rumours.

"I want to clarify that such reports are totally wrong. If that was the case, I would just say that the matter has been settled and put the issue behind," said the veteran to the media.

He explained that he didn't want to stall the release of the film as he has experienced the agony of seeing his film not getting released first hand.

"I wrote to them cordially, hoping that they too will be reasonable and agree to sort this out through talks. Now, in hindsight, I feel that I did a mistake by respecting them and sending them a letter first," he remarked. The director has placed two demands to the KLTA team — to credit him in the titles and to share the collection report with him. While the former had been carried out, he said that he will decide on his plan of action only after seeing the collection report. When CT spoke to Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is distributing the film in Tamil Nadu, he said that he is not connected with this issue in any way. "It's an issue between Bhagyaraj sir, Rama Narayanan sir and Pushpa Kandasamy, from whom Rama Narayanan sir had bought the rights. They are all my friends. Bhagyaraj sir is someone I respect and his son, Shanthnu, is a good friend. Santhanam sir too is my friend. I don't want to get involved in this. I have told them clearly to sort it out among themselves."

On the question of disclosing the collection figures to the director, he said, "The matter has gone to the court and I will take a decision as per the judgment."

Murali Ramasamy, the film's producer and Rama Narayanan's son, said that the KLTA team have decided not to talk about this issue. "We have all the relevant papers with us, and, the matter is in the court. It won't be fair to comment on this now. Bhagyaraj sir is also a veteran in this industry," he said.
