Stay for ‘Jilla’ release, hearing today at the Civil court

Jilla
The City Civil court in Chennai is to take up for hearing today a plea seeking a stay on the release of the Tamil film Jilla, starring Vijay and Mohanlal in the lead.

The film is to release tomorrow.

The plea has been filed by R Mahendran of Soumita Sri Arts. In his petition filed in the court, the producer has reportedly said that his company Soumita Sri Arts had dubbed the Telugu film Bageeratha, starring Prakash Raj and Shriya in the lead, as Jilla in Tamil.

He goes on to claim that he registered the title Jilla with the Film and Television Producers Guild of South India in 2008 and that his film was censored by the Censor Board which issued a certificate on 28-5-2008. From then, he had been waiting for an appropriate time to release his film.

Mahendran claimed that at this juncture he had learnt through newspaper advertisements that another film by the same name was to be released on January 10. He was therefore requesting the honourable court to issue a stay on the release of the film.

This case first came up for hearing on Tuesday. The court had then ordered notices to be issued to the defendants including Super Good Films, the producers of the Vijay starrer Jilla.
