‘Extra Demand for 200 prints Delayed Kochadaiiyaan’

Dismissing reports that a private bank had sent a repayment-default notice to the producers of Rajinikanth's Kochadaiiyaan, Eros International issued a statement that it was a sudden surge in demand that brought about its postponement. "There was a sudden demand for an additional 200 prints for as many screens, all over the world, just two days before release after seeing the extraordinary response for the advance booking. 125,000 tickets were sold out in under two hours in Chennai alone. To avoid last minute delay on the screening material reaching theatres, the decision was taken to reschedule the film to May 23," said a statement from the production house.

This was merely the latest in a long string of delays that have become synonymous with the three-years-and-counting production by Soundarya Rajinikanth. However, all this will not repeat itself, assure members of Mediaone Global, the co-producers.

"All post production work has been completed and the film is censored in all six languages in 2D and 3D versions. It is ready for delivery next week," they said.

Expected to release on a combined number of screens well over 3,000, the world over, Kochadaiiyaan has been shot with motion-capture technology and is the Superstar's comeback film, post illness.

"Last time Soundarya was running around and had a knife at her throat, but now we are well prepared and everything will go according to plan," said a source.
