Kollywood celebrities stands against Rajapakshe visit
The event is going to be held in New Delhi on May 26 and Rajapakshe has been invited by the Bharathiya Janata Party which has won the Loksabha Election with thumping majority, gearing up to form the new Government of India.
Kollywood celebrities known for their activism for the cause of Sri Lankan Tamils have started condemning the invitation extended to the SL President who has been accused of spearheading genocide against Tamils living in the country and also the one who is bound to face the investigation of United Nations Organisation on charges of committing grave war crimes against innocent Tamils.
Director Gauthaman has sent a letter addressed to the PM designate Narendra Modi requesting him to call off the invitation to Rajapakshe. In his letter he has elaborated the injustice and inhuman treatment meted out to the Sri Lankan Tamils during the Civil war that concluded in 2009.
Veteran director Bharathi Raja has also stressed the importance of keeping the leader facing the war crime allegation away from the nation’s big event. Noting down that the Tamilnadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha who party has won 37 seats in the Lok Sabha and also become the third largest party in the Indian Parliament had announced that she will be boycotting the swearing in ceremony if Rajapakshe attends it
, Bharathi Raja has mentioned that if the impending ruling party fails allows Rajapakshe to attend the swearing ceremony of the upcoming PM, it will affect the relationship between the centre and the Tamilnadu state government.
