A defamation complaint has been filed in a magistrate court in Madurai against Tamil film actor Vijay and others for a reference to the 2G spectrum case in his Diwali release "Kaththi."

Madurai-based advocate R Ramasubramanian has filed the defamation complaint against actor Vijay, film director A R Murugadoss and Lyca Productions (the producer of the movie) contending that there is a dialogue in the film which suggested that corruption occurred in the allocation of 2G spectrum.

The dialogue in question is: "This land is of people who made crores and crores of rupees from air."

Cine people were not supposed to come to a conclusion that corruption occurred in spectrum allocation when the matter was being heard by a court in Delhi, the complainant said.

"With an ulterior motive, the movie has been created. It portrays the nation and rulers in a bad manner. Its dialogues amount to damaging the dignity of the judiciary, besides nation's dignity in the world. It would affect nation's foreign direct investment," the complainant said.

He further said the cine people's action was an offence under Section 500 (defamation) of the IPC and hence, action should be taken against actor Vijay, director A R Murugadoss and Lyca Productions.

When the matter came up for admission, the complainant's locus standi to file the complaint was questioned. His side told the court that the complainant is an advocate and so a stakeholder of judiciary.

Following this, the court granted permission to file the petition and adjourned the matter to November 11.
