Velai Illa Pattadhari is a hit film which had Dhanush in the lead role. The film which was produced by Dhanush was directed by ace cinematographer Velraj. This film was a great success and ran in theatres for more than 75 days.

The film was released on 30 screens in Chennai alone. Sreedhar Pillai stated that the film had made ₹43.6 million on its opening day at the Tamil Nadu box office alone. The first three-day nett across Tamil Nadu was reported to be around ₹133 million. The first weekend gross was ₹190.8 million. The film made ₹66.6 million in 10 weeks at the Chennai box office and ₹250 million in Tamil Nadu overall.

Seeing the success of the film, Dhanush decided to remake this film in Hindi. Initially he had planned to cast a Bollywood actor for the lead role.

Now Dhanush has changed his mind. He has decided to don the lead role in the Hindi remake version. His earlier Hindi film Raanjhanaa was also a great hit. He is currently sharing the screen with Amitabh Bachchan in the Hindi film titled Shamitabh. His popularity is slowly brewing up in Bollywood also. Discussions are going on to cast Alia Bhatt in Amala Paul's role

Pinning his hopes on this, Dhanush has planned to act in the Hindi remake of the Tamil film Velai Illa Pattadhari. Anirudh who has composed music for Velai Illa Pattadhari will also compose music for the Hindi version. Similarly Velraj will be directing the film. The shooting of the film will commence during the month of July 2015.
