A.R. Murugadoss, the director of Vijay-Samantha’s Kaththi, has claimed that the film has created a new record for South Indian language films by collecting a whopping Rs.23.8 crores on its first day in theatres in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere.
Reports said that Kaththi, which faced immense pre-release issues and finally hit the screens in Deepavali, met with an encouraging response from Vijay’s fans across the State who thronged cinema halls in large numbers to watch the film. Vijay-Samantha’s on-screen pairing for the first time and Anirudh’s music had created hype about the film whose release in theatres was uncertain till the eleventh hour.
