Kaththi sets new record of ₹23.8 Cr collections on opening day

While we had earlier reported that Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 'Kaththi' has garnered about 12.5 crores on the opening day at the Box Office in Tamil Nadu, the latest is that the film has grossed 23.8 Cr in total on the first day of release, excluding collections from Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norwayand Holland which haven't been reported yet. While the collection figures in India is 16.45 Cr, the overseas collections are 7.35 Cr.

A.R. Murugadoss, the director of Vijay-Samantha’s Kaththi, has claimed that the film has created a new record for South Indian language films by collecting a whopping Rs.23.8 crores on its first day in theatres in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere.

Reports said that Kaththi, which faced immense pre-release issues and finally hit the screens in Deepavali, met with an encouraging response from Vijay’s fans across the State who thronged cinema halls in large numbers to watch the film. Vijay-Samantha’s on-screen pairing for the first time and Anirudh’s music had created hype about the film whose release in theatres was uncertain till the eleventh hour.

Trade pundits have predicted that if the film continues to maintain the trend at least for the next couple of weeks, it might create a new record at the box-office.
