Vaibhav about sailing in 'Kappal'

Damaal Dumeel hero Vaibhav's next is a romantic comedy titled Kappal. The film is being directed by Karthik G Krish, a debutant and former assistant to Shankar.

With Sundar C's multi-starrer Aambalai also in his kitty, Vaibhav has every reason to be thrilled. Just as he thought things couldn't get any better, one more good news came his way. In a chat with CE, he spills the beans.

"Since Karthik has assisted Shankar in Sivaji and Endhiran, he showed Kappal to his mentor for suggestions. Shankar enjoyed the rom com. After watching it, he asked Karthik if anyone had bought the release rights. When Karthik replied that he had not started the process, Shankar said, 'The movie is good. I'll take it.' Karthik was just speechless with joy," recalls Vaibhav. The movie will release under Shankar's S Pictures' banner, after a grand audio launch soon.

Vaibhav is looking forward to his meeting with Shankar. "I was in complete shock when I heard the news. Shankar has been tweeting about the film, adding to our delight," he says with a smile.

Karunakaran, Arjun and Venkat Sundar play his friends, while newbie Sonam Bajwa plays the female lead. The music is by Sankar N Natrajan.

Vaibhav has just completed 30 days of shoot for the multi-starrer Aambalai. "I met Sundar C at a party and the next day I got an offer from him for the role. It all happened suddenly," he says with a laugh. But acting along with Vishal is complete distraction, he says. "He's my buddy, so whenever we are on the sets, we have a blast. We often end up with three or four takes since we laugh so much," he adds. Hansika is paired with Vishal, while Madhumita is paired opposite Vaibhav.

Meanwhile, Vaibhav is also doing a project in Tollywood — an untitled bilingual. "In Aambalai, several scenes have around 20 artistes in one shot. If I took any breaks for other films, it would have meant producers having to coordinate dates with 19 other artistes! So, I didn't want to cause inconvenience to anyone and decided to continue with my Telugu film after my stint with Aambalai," he says. Besides this, Vaibhav has one more Tamil comedy with a new director on the cards.
