Currently Vijay is donning the lead role in the film directed by Chimbudevan. Shruthi Haasan and Hansika are pairing with him.

Evergreen yesteryear heroine Sridevi and Kannada actor Sudeep are donning important roles in the film. Devi Sriprasad is composing the music.

Shooting of the film began in Chennai recently. A song sequence featuring Vijay, Sudeep and Sri Devi was shot. Sudeep has tweeted, "An Elite,elegant Sri Devi ji's presence keeps everyone on their toes, Watching her perform makes every1 just be glued to her. Vijay is a gentleman. "IlayaThalapathi n me dancing together,,Well tats wat we have started our shoot with. it was fun"

Meanwhile, Sudeep was one of the special guests at "Lingaa" audio launched held in Chennai on Sunday, 16 November. The actor has made a special appearance in the Rajinikanth-Sonakshi Sinha starrer.

Sudeep's tweets on "Vijay 58" have got thumping response from his and Ilayathalapathy's fans.

Sudeep is playing the role of an antagonist in the mega-budget Vijay starrer and it will be the actor-director's first full-fledged Tamil movie. He was earlier seen in "Naan Ee", a partially dubbed version of "Eega" (Telugu).

"Vijay 58" is director Chimbudevan's magnum opus period drama made with a budget of ₹90 crore. The film's shooting kick-started on 12 November and the shooting began in a palatial set made in Adityaran Studios in Chennai where a song sequence is being shot. Reportedly, over 300 dancers from Mumbai and Bangalore will be part of the song. The shooting of the fantasy entertainer has a 45-day schedule.

Sources close to the movie suggest that Vijay will be spotted in a gladiator look in the movie. Hansika will play the role of a princess and Sridevi will be seen as a queen, who is also Hansika and Sudeep's mother. Sudeep will portray the antagonist role of the commander of the kingdom.
