Before you go into the conclusions, here are the details: two youngster in Coimbatore committed suicide, as their partners rejected to watch OK Kanmani with him in theater. Police started their inquiry on the suicide.
J Jaisankar from B R Puram near Hopes College first got himself drunk and called his girlfriend, working in an apparel store, and threatened to commit suicide if she does not reconsider her decision and go with him to watch the Mani Rathnam film. When the girl dug her heels in, he hanged himself on Sunday, according to the Peelamedu police. After he committed suicide, the girl went to his place and refused to leave, said police sources.
In the other incident, P Sathyapriya (31) from Nava India area asked her husband, Palanisamy, to take her out for shopping to Big Bazaar Street and wrap up the day with a movie.
When Palanisamy, a sales manager with a private company, rejected the idea saying that he was not feeling well, his wife of eight years consumed poison.
As she started throwing up, Palanisamy rushed her to CMCH, where doctors declared her as ‘brought dead’. The couple have a seven-year-old child.
S Ananth, a psychiatrist from the Department of Psychiatry in Ramakrishna Hospital, said though it may seem that both the persons took the decision to kill themselves in the ‘spur of the moment’, there could be long-standing issues between the two couples. He went on to add that the Western region of Tamil Nadu was seeing a pandemic of suicides due to an increase in mental health issues.
