Vaagai Sooda Vaa - Movie Preview

Starring: Vimal, Iniya, K Bhagyaraj, Ponvannan
Direction: A Sarkunam
Music: M Ghibran
Production: S Muruganandham, N Puranna
https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/281297_247065148654540_237407306286991_935635_1063615_n.jpg
Whatever Sarkunam does, he gives his one hundred per cent. So when he had to recreate a village of the 1960s, he went to greater extent to research on the subject. He brought in Seenu, Sabu Cyril’s assistant, for the art direction and erected a village set near Arupukottai. Vaagai Sooda Vaa is a period film, but not the one that deals with any sort of historical events. This is a love story set in the 1960s.

Vaagai Sooda Vaa is branded as a romantic comedy and will have Sarkunam’s trade mark simplistic comedy, infused with real life humor. And it has the Sarkunam regular Vimal, who played the wastrel from a village role in Kalavani to perfection. Joining Vimal onscreen is a bunch of promising actors including veteran Bhagyaraj, Ponvannan and Thambi Ramaiah.

In his interviews, Sarkunam revealed that the movie is set in 1966 and has a message. The movie was his first script and supposedly his dream project, with which he wanted to make his directorial debut. It took him a few years and a sleeper hit like Kalavani in his profile to find a producer who would take up the project. Vaagai Sooda Vaa has a newcomer Iniya playing Vimal’s lead

Produced by S. Muruganandham and N. Purna for Studio Village Theatres, the movie is scored by M. Ghibran, whose tracks have already become chartbusters. Om Prakash’s cinematography and Raja Mohammed’s editing will strengthen the movie’s credentials.

Vedi - Movie Preview

Starring: Vishal, Sameera Reddy, Poonam Kaur, Vivek
Direction: Prabhu Deva
Music: Vijay Antony
Production: Vikram Krishna (GK Film Corporation)
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w5bzb-FUyjk/TmRP6BCLUiI/AAAAAAAAmdM/qWZl-tapPBE/s1600/vedi.jpg
Probably for the first time in his career, Vishal handled a performance oriented role to perfection in Avan Ivan. And after the movie’s release, he went on record stating that he is not up for another similarly demanding role in his career anytime soon. So his next Vedi is an action entertainer, something he is very relaxed doing. Besides, it’s a remake of the Telugu flick Souryam, making it a safe bet.

Prabhu Deva returns with his director’s mantle after disaster struck with Engeyum Kadhal. But since this is not an indigenous movie and a remake, we can expect Prabhu Deva to replicate the movie with panache. Being an entertainer himself, the movie is also expected to have his trademark dance movements and comedy.

Vedi has Vishal, Sameera Reddy, Vivek and Poonam Kaur in the lead and is produced by Vikram Krishna and Sriya Reddy for their GK Film Corporation. Sameera comes back after her Asal debacle and will be seen romancing Vishal. Vivek’s comedy portions are supposed to be one of the highlights of the movie. Although not revealed to the media completely, the rapport between Vivek and Prabhu Deva is expected to lighten up the movie’s proceedings.

Vedi is scored by Vijay Antony and has R. D. Rajasekhar’s cinematography and V. T. Vijayan’s editing. Being released this weekend, Vedi will have to be entertaining enough to stand the competition.

It is going to be a treat for film buffs when August draws to an end and right through the coming months with the most expected films of 2011 starring the top heroes in Tamil lining up for release!

Cheran is continuing his journey as an actor with 'Muran' where he will share screen space with Prasanna. Directed by newcomer Rajjan Madhav the film has been inspired from the Alfred Hitchcock's film 'Strangers On A Train.' With modern Chennai as the backdrop the film is about two strangers meeting and what fate has in store for them from then on.

The rushes of 'Muran' which were released when 'Rowthiram' was released have been garnering appreciation for the way the film has been shot as well as for its music. The tunes for 'Muran' are by Sajjan Madhav the director's sibling and son of late Malayalam musician Ravindran.

Cheran will play a popular musician in Muran and Prasanna will be seen as a rich entrepreneur. The actor has slimmed down and lost a good amount of flab and looks lean and trendy to suit his character in this film. 'Muran' sees Nikita Tukral (the "Kodanu Kodi" girl from 'Saroja') and Haripriya as the protagonists' female leads. Jai Prakash has an important role to perform in this psychological thriller film, reveal insiders.

'Muran' is jointly produced by director Cheran's Dream Theatres and UTV Motion Pictures. The film is gearing up for release in theatres across the state on September 23!

Vandhan Vendran Movie Preview

Production:Srinivasan

Recently director Kannan has to deny news about Vandhaan Vendraan being the remake of the Bollywood romcom I Hate Luv Storys. Kannan said it's his original story and that he's not inspired by any other sources. This must have been because Kannan's earlier film Kanden Kadhalai with Bharath and Tamannah in the lead was indeed the remake of the hit Bollywood movie Jab We Met.

Jiiva plays a professional boxer, who falls in love with an industrialist’s daughter, Tapasee. Tapasee's character is that of an American return girl whose values are rooted in Indian tradition. This is Tapasee's film after her hugely popular role as Irene for the national award winning Aadukalam.

Vandhaan Vendraan is produced by K.Seenivasan for the banner Vasan Visual Ventures. The music is scored by Thamman and lyrics are by Thamarai, Madhan Karky and Yughabharathy. The movie was shot in and around India and abroad with 70% of the shoot schedules having been held in Mumbai. The song sequences were shot in Goa and Turkey.

Kannan is known to direct sensible commercial entertainers with his earlier films. Vandhaan Vendraan's stills look promising and the story line, as revealed by him partly, has potential to be a decent entertainer if it's spruced up in the hands of Kannan.

Firstly, the film stars Jiiva, a reliable name among Tamil actors to look for quality entertainers. And it is directed by Kannan, a former associate of Mani Ratnam, who has built an image for himself with movies like 'Jayamkondan' and 'Kanden Kadhalai'.

Finally, this is the second film in Tamil for Tapsee, the 'Vellavi vechi velutha...' Punjabi girl, who won over the hearts of Tamil masses by beautifully playing the role of an Anglo Indian girl in Dhanush-starrer 'Aadukalam'.

Produced by K S Srinivasan of Vasan Visual Ventures, the man behind 'Naan Kadavul' and 'Boss Engira Baskaran', 'Vandhaan Vendraan' has music by Thaman, whose music is also said to be one of the highlights of the film.

Jiiva , who plays a boxer in the movie, says, "the script is simply amazing and has everything in it to impress the audience. All credits go to Kannan for beautifully conceiving and making the film. It is an entertainer with a difference."

He adds: "It is a interesting role, that of a professional boxer that I play in the movie. And, I underwent rigorous training for this. Also, with Santhanam around, there is no dearth of comedy".

For 'Vandhaan Vendraan', Kannan shot for almost 22 days in Mumbai's sensitive areas like the Gateway of India and Taj Hotel. "We were refused permission initially, as security was high in these areas where the terror attack of 2008 happened. But my script was conceived four years back, even before the incident, and I went out of my way to convince them."

Kannan also clears the air by saying that 'Vandhan Vendran' is not a remake, but based on an original script penned by him. "My maiden film Jayamkondan too is not inspired by any other movie. Only my second venture Kanden Kadhalai is the Tamil adaptation of Bollywood hit Jab We Met," says the former associate of Mani Ratnam.

He adds: "Though Jiiva is playing a boxer, it is just his profession in the movie and it doesn't have any crucial importance. The screenplay will be so different and I am hopeful that film-buffs would love watching Vandhaan Vendraan."

180 Preview
180 - Degree of love

It was seven years back Kollywood last saw Siddarth on screen, in Mani Ratnam's 'Ayudha Ezhuthu'. The chocolate hero is now back, with '180', directed by Jayendra, who is admired by none other than Mani Ratnam.

A popular ad filmmaker, Jayendra is venturing into big screen with '180'. In Mani's own words, "Jayendra as a talented person. It is my longtime wish that he should direct a movie. It has come true now."

Interestingly, there is a buzz in the industry that '180' will be on the lines of Mani's romantic films, throwing light on the emotions shared between lovers. And we have two heroines here- Priya Anand and Nithya Menon- to do the needful in the company of Siddarth.

Sathyam Cinemas and Aghal Films have jointly produced '180', which has music by popular Mollywood composer Sharreth. The film is shot on Phantom and Red One digital camera and the visuals in the movie are on par with international standards, we learn.

Giving details about the film, Jayendra says, "I guess I am the oldest director to debut. Jokes apart, the film is a contemporary love story. But it is not just any triangular love story, but goes beyond it."

On the lead actors, he says, "While Siddarth is a bundle of energy, Priya Anand and Nithya Menon have given their best. All the three have cooperated well and the output is good."

Heaping laurels on music composer Sharreth, Jayendra says, "He came out with 180 tunes for the film, reflecting it title. I had a tough time to choose the best from his tunes as all of them were extremely good."

Finally, Siddarth too has something to say about the film. "The reason behind me not acting in Tamil for many years was that I didn't come across nice scripts. Thanks to Jayendra, I am back in Kollywood now. 180 is a beautiful story and I loved to be part of it."

With promising persons promising a lot about '180', expectations are high on the film. Let's hope the end-product to be a fulfilling experience.

Avan Ivan Preview
Avan Ivan - Who is who

An expert at serious films, Bala has made a serious effort to make a light-hearted movie, and the output is ‘Avan Ivan’. Also, this one is a quickie from the National Award winning director, considering that he normally takes not less than two years to complete a film.

With Arya and Vishal playing the lead roles, ‘Avan Ivan’ is produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram of AGS Entertainment. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while the entire lyrics are by Na Muthukumar.

“Working with Bala sir is like a dream come true for me. It’s a longtime wish of mine and finally got fulfilled with Avan Ivan,” says Vishal, who is extremely optimistic about the movie’s prospects in the box-office.

Vishal’s name in the film is Walter Vanangamudi and Arya is called as Kumbudren Sami. While the former plays a squint-eyed, the latter plays a rustic village youth and both the characters are expected to tickle our funny bone.

“Arya and Vishal would ensure that the audience had a hearty laugh while watching the movie. Such was the characterisation and narration by Bala. It is going to be a laugh riot,” say sources.

Interestingly, this is not the first time for Arya to work with Bala, thanks to ‘Naan Kadavul’. He says, “I would like to work with Bala sir in as many films possible. He is such a great genius.”

On sharing the screen space with Vishal, he says, “He is a longtime friend of mine and we were close pals even before we stepped into film industry. Happy that we are together in front of the camera too.”

Explaining the reason behind trying his hands at a comedy film, Bala says, “My guru Balumahendra and Illayaraja asked me to shed violence and try something different. ‘Avan Ivan’ falls in this genre. But at the same time, the film would have emotions too.”

Heaping laurels on Vishal and Arya, the director says, “Both had worked hard for ‘Avan Ivan’. I sincerely hope that Vishal would get a fitting honour for his squint-eyed act in the film. Equally appreciable is Arya.”

Production: Prithviraj, Santosh Sivan, Shaji Natesan.

Urumi (‘Pathinaindham Nootrandu Uraivaal’) is an upcoming historical epic film made in Malayalam, Tamil and English. (Urumi means the weapon Surul Pattai in Tamil.)

Though the film is seen as a Malayalam film its large canvas makes it a world film. The English version of the film has been titled 'Vasco Da Gama', while the Tamil version is 'Pathinaindham Nootrandu Uraivaal'.

The film will have two versions for screening. One a standard three-hour theatrical version and the second is a 90-minute English version for the international market.

The script of the film originally thought in Malayalam is written by Shankar Ramakrishnan and directed by Santosh Sivan. Prithviraj, Santosh Sivan and Shaji Natesan are the producers.

The film Urumi (‘Pathinaindham Nootrandu Uraivaal’) - with the tagline - The boy who wanted to kill Vasco Da Gama - is set in the backdrop of the fierce warrior clans of Northern Kerala in the sixteenth century and focuses on the cult of a hero Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar (Prithviraj) - a man with an epic mission. His target and mission is to resist or kill Dom Vasco da Gama, the Viceroy of Portuguese Empire in India.

The film is spread between the second and third visit of Vasco da Gama to India and chronicles a varied version of how Vasco da Gama could have met a bloody death in AD 1524. In the journey of Kelu- the warrior he has to encounter the seamless conflicts within the kinsmen and also Kings, ministers, peasants and a warring Muslim warrior princess Ayesha (Genelia) of the famed Arackal Sultanat.

Kelu has a forte, a legendary golden Urumi (‘Pathinaindham Nootrandu Uraivaal’), specially made from the left over ornaments of the dead women and children who were burnt alive in the massacre of a Mecca Ship, Miri, commanded to be set on fire and drowned by Vasco da Gama during his second visit to Kerala in AD 1502.

Kelu is supported by Vavvali, (Prabhudeva), his childhood friend and in a way his elder brother, though he comes from the Muslim neighborhood.

Kelu tracks his mission through the wily roads of treachery, treason and a hidden passion to reach a master plan to create his own army of the people - against the mighty Empire. His action in creating an organized revolt becomes the first of its kind movement against the first Colonial Advance in India.

Sivan tries to ask was Vasco da Gama an explorer or an invader? Sivan explores beyond what our text books had taught about the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama that he found the sea route to India, landed in Malabar Coast and went back with a lot of pepper.

The shooting of ‘Urumi (‘Pathinaindham Nootrandu Uraivaal’)’ started in August 2010 and it largely happened in Kerala and the dense forests of Malshej Ghat in Maharashtra.

Urumi (‘Pathinaindham Nootrandu Uraivaal’) has a stellar star cast lead by Prithiviraj and Genelia. Prabhu Deva and Nithya Menon are in important roles. Tabu, Vidya Balan and Arya play significant cameos. The bubbly Genelia is debuting in Malayalam and she is paired opposite Prithvi for the first time. This will also be the first Malayalam film for Arya and Vidya Balan.

Deepak Dev has composed the songs and the background score for the movie. Sreekar Prasad is the Editor and Anal Arasu is the Action director. Astounding camera work is also by Santosh Sivan

‘Urumi (‘Pathinaindham Nootrandu Uraivaal’) is expected to release worldwide in all versions March 31, 2011 as a big summer release.
