Beaten at the Oscars by 'Hurt Locker', James Cameron's 'Avatar' took another hit when Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' overtook the SFX extravaganza's opening weekend collection record.

'Alice in Wonderland' has Johnny Depp in the role of Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum. The film has set a record in UK for a film released in March.
'Avatar' was in second place after 10 weeks at the top. 'The Crazies' was unchanged at three and the ethereal thriller 'The Lovely Bones' was at four.
