Swagatham, says Rahman

Oscar-Grammy winner A R Rahman launched 'Swagatham', the theme song for Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi on Monday, after the Group of Ministers (GoM) on the Games had approved the song at a meeting on Sunday.

Presenting the story of making the song, at a crowded press conference, the Mozart of Madras said: "When you hear the song you feel like India is calling you. I want the crowd to sing along."

Accompanied by Organising Committee chairman of the Games, Suresh Kalmadi and film director Shyam Benegal, Rahman said, "We have put in a lot of hard work and we are all very excited to turn it into a memorable experience."

He added: I am still working on it and am curious to know how older, intelligent people, who have years of wisdom, will react to it. The song is dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, the father of this great nation."

Creative Director Bharat Bala, who worked with Rahman in his earlier ventures like 'Vandemataram', said the CWG theme song would be the proudest aspect of India’s cultural heritage.
