Will Rajini become TN brand envoy of HMK?

Close on the heels of Bollywood baadshah Shah Rukh Khan being announced as the brand ambassador of West Bengal by its chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the Hindu Makkal Katchi, the self-styled patron of Hindu culture and tradition, has requested our very own Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth to volunteer to be the brand ambassador of Tamil Nadu.

HMK state organising secretary Kannan told Deccan Chronicle, "No star other than Rajinikanth has iconic status in Tamil Nadu and, till today, he attracts people of all ages.

Though he was born in Karnataka, he earned his name and fame through Tamil films and with the present crisis in the state, he can be the only person who can represent the masses and be a role model."

And the HMK feels it is time Rajinikanth lent a helping hand. The party points out that Rajini himself always mentions in his songs that Tamils and Tamil Nadu have made him a star and that he does not know how to repay them.
"We feel this is the best way to do it. The actor has earlier been part of several social causes like sympathising with Sri Lankan Tamils and supporting the interlinking of rivers.

There are several problems including power shortage, water scarcity, neglect of sports… with the millions of his fans globally, Rajini can motivate the younger generation to make Tamil Nadu a self-sufficient state."

It is learnt that the HMK will be making a representation to chief minister Jayalalithaa to urge Rajinikanth to become the state's brand ambassador.

Though SRK was born in Delhi and earned a name in Bollywood, the actor reportedly said "West Bengal is my second home", after accepting its brand ambassadorship.
