Even as Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan’s fans
are awaiting the dawn of 7th February (tomorrow) to go and watch the actor’s latest film Vishwaroopam in theatres in Chennai and all over Tamil Nadu, news has trickled in about the film’s release on television via DTH, as issue which was the bone of contention between Kamal Haasan and the theatre-owners in the State not long ago.
After he resolved the theatre-owners’ issue vis-à-vis release of the film via DTH, Kamal faced an uphill task in releasing Vishwaroopam as many Muslim organizations called for a ban on the release of the film saying that certain sequences in the film amounting to insulting Muslims in particular and Islam as a whole. The film was subsequently banned twice from releasing in theatres by the Chennai High Court and as a result of tripartite talks held in Chennai last week, the ban is now off.
It was announced some time back that the film would release in theatres on 25th January to be followed by its release via DTH on 2nd February. After the High Court ban and the subsequent delays, the film is now scheduled to hit the screens on 7th February. Kamal has now hinted that the DTH release would be on 15th of February.
The film is likely to release in more than 500 halls in Chennai and across the State. Instead of the earlier fee of a one-time payment of Rs.1000 to watch the film on DTH, it now appears that it would be enough if DTH subscribers and Kamal’s fans pay just Rs.300-500 (to be decided soon) to watch the film on television and in the comforts of their bedroom/living room in their respective houses.
The reduction in fee is likely to witness a new burst of rush by the fans for DTH booking; besides, the High Court’s ban and the subsequent talks have upped the excitement quotient among the public about the film’s contents.
Update:
Coming February 15th, you can watch unedited version of Viswaroopam for Rs 300/-
While the movie was supposed to get released in DTH before hitting silver screens, the amount of Rs 1000 fixed for DTH made it a flop and Kamal accepted to release it in theaters.
The stories that developed later is a known fact.
Now, the movie will be screened in cinema halls with 6 cuts and muting, while the DTH version will have the movie as it is and Tamil Nadu's madam does not have any rights to stop or ban the movie coming through DTH!!!
Enjoy the full version in DTH while supporting the committed actor Kamal by visiting theaters!!!
