Neeraj Pande, who had directed the Akshay Kumar and Kajal Agarwal starrer Special 26, is all set to co-produce the film’s Tamil and Telugu versions.
When director-producer Lingusamy approached for the remake rights of Special 26, the director expressed his desire to co-produce the film with Suriya in the lead.

This discussion seems to have materialized with Lingusamy and Neeraj agreeing to the terms and conditions and it now looks like Suriya will be reprising Akshay Kumar’s role in the remake. Lingusamy is expected to direct the Tamil and Telugu version of Special 26, states sources.

Special Chabbis (Special 26), directed by Neeraj Pandey of A Wednesday fame, staring Akshay Kumar and Kajal Agarwal in the lead is now coming to Tamil.

We hear that Director Lingusamy who is at present busy with his next directorial with Surya and Samantha in the lead is willing to produce Speical 26 in Tamil.

While he has been on the look out for a big actor to play the lead, in place of Akshay’s role, they are planning to rope in Kajal to reprise her role in the remake too.

With Neeraj Pandey’s earlier venture, A Wednesday being a huge hit in Tamil (Unnaipol Oruvan) as well with Kamal Hassan playing the lead, the expectations of Special 26 remake is also high.

Lingusamy informs media, “It’s an engaging film, and I’m happy to be making its Tamil version. For this, my production house will team up with the Bollywood studio that produced the original. We’re yet to finalize the rest of the details and an official announcement will be made soon.”

The film is based on a real-life incident in which a group executed a fake raid in Mumbai posing as CBI officers. Anupam Kher, Manoj Bajpai, Jimmy Shergil and Divya Dutta play important supporting roles.
