The charming Punjabi beauty Poonam Bajwa, debuted opposite Bharath in the film ‘Seval’, is in an upbeat mood thanks to her forthcoming movie ‘Kacheri Aarambam’ (KA) opposite Jeeva. She is paired opposite Jeeva for the second time after ‘Thenavattu’.

Poonam has a couple of films under production in ‘Thambikkottai’ and ‘Drohi’ even before the release of KA.  We caught her amidst her busy schedule for an informal chat.

Do you aspire to be the ‘No.1’ in Kollywood?

Poonam: I don’t believe in the rat race to the top slot. Nobody can take away whatever film offers I’m getting; similarly, I won’t and can’t intervene to spoil others’ film chances.  I believe that work is worship and if one is honest and sincere, he/she is bound to reach the top and earn a place in the fans’ heart. 

Nowadays, heroines do glamourous roles. What about you?

Poonam:  As far as I am concerned, there is a limit beyond which I would never go when it comes to ‘exposing’.  I don’t mean to say that I would be donning only deglamorised roles. I know it won’t fetch me many offers.  But I would never indulge in over exposing, which I feel vulgar.

What about your relationship with your Jeeva?

Poonam:  Wherever I go, I’m pestered with this question without fail.  I want to make it absolutely clear that we have nothing ‘going on’ between us.  He’s married to a beautiful wife and is leading a peaceful life.  Why should anyone think of disturbing him?  Jeeva is just a good friend of mine. Period.

There is a talk that you are very strict about your salary…

It is not true. I just try to ensure that I’m paid without dues the remuneration agreed to at the start of the film.
