The year 2009 also bid farewell to some of illustrious persons who graced the silver screen for many years.

In January MGC Sukumar, nephew of MGR and son of MGR’s elder brother MG Chakrapani died. MGC Sukumar had a short career in films in late seventies. He started as a hero in Kungumam Kadhai Solgiradhu in 1978 and also Karadi and Porkaalam later.

In January the Jerry Lewis of India Nagesh died of prolonged illness. A legend in his own time Nagesh’s death was an end of an era.

In March Veteran comedian ‘Omakuchi’ Narasimhan died. He started acting at the age of 13, making his debut in ‘Avvaiyar.’

In April leading stunt master Rambo Rajkumar died of a heart attack in Hyderabad during the shoot of Telugu remake of Polladhavan. Rambo Rajkumar is the son of stuntman TK Parameswar who had done MGR films.

In May veteran actor-producer K.Balaji died following multiple organ failure. Rajnikanth’s Super Star status began with the block buster Billa produced by K. Balaji. Malayalam superstar Mohanlal is his son-in-law.

In August noter Tamil Malayalam Malayalam character actor Murali died in Thiruvananthapuram, Murali did good roles in Tamil films like “Gemini’, “Dum Dum Dum’, “Ram’, “Ae’ and Polladhavan’ gained him appreciations. Surya’s “Aadhavan’ was his lat film Tamil.

In December Kannada super star Vishnuvardhan died of severe heart attack at the age of 60 in Mysore. He was introduced in Tamil by director Sridhar in the 1973 movie Alaigal. Vishnuvardhan also did major roles in films Malalai Pattalam with Laksmi, Eetti with Vijaykanth and Viduthalai with Rajnikanth.
