No one can ever forget the character ‘Parattai’ played by Thalaivar(Rajinikanth). He did set a trend for villain roles by this movie. Incidentally, it was also Thalaivar’s first color film!

Billa

The name has its magic. The movie that made me to become a fan of Thalaivar. I was at my age 3. One of the mass movies of Thalaivar that I could think of without much time.

Thalapathi

Surya can even die for his friend is what the theme line is … Ultimately Thalaivar fans would not want to see Surya dying at the end so I guess the director would have changed the climax to suit Tamil audience … but it was an incredible and such a charismatic role which pulled thousands and thousands of youngsters to the movie halls.

Baasha

Baasha-Rajini.jpg
I would say Baasha was Thalaivar’s super-duper hit during mid 90s’. Entire Tamil cine industry can ever remember the scenes between Baasha and Mark Anthony! This movie is one of the best movie for Thalaivar. What I read in an article was “After Basha became a superhit, Thalaivar became very influential—and commanded more loyalty than the then-current CM of Tamil Nadu state. He had a clash with that state’s Chief Minister while he was going for shooting, when the road was blocked for the CM’s passage. Thalaivar himself reportedly came out of his own car and stood on the road, and a crowd gathered around him. As a result, it took almost three hours for the CM to cross the road !!!!”

Sivaji: The Boss

This was Thalaivar’s 100th Tamil film and a mega mega hit of Tamil cinema. Thalaivar came as a complete package in the movie. His Style, His action sequences, His romance and duets … wow wow wow … scintillating performance by Thalaivar! Several newspaper articles reported Thalaivar was paid Rs. 20 crores (about 4.3 million US dollars) for Sivaji: The Boss making him the highest paid actor in Asia after Jackie Chan.
