“Friendship never sinks”

Sunday was Friendship Day. And Kollywood's best known pals, director Venkat Prabhu and producer-singer S P B Charan have expressed their delight of being friends for decades.

"We grew up together as our dads (Gangai Amaran and S P Balasubramaniam) too are best friends. So our friendship dates back to our childhood," said the two prominent persons of Tamil cinema in chorus.

"Of course, like any other friends, we too had fought with each other many a time. But no war between us lasted for more than a day. At the end of the day, we are best friends again," they said.

"It was Charan who spotted the director in me," Venkat Prabhu said and added: "He was the one who gave me the guts to direct 'Chennai 600028' by coming forward to produce the film." And the rest, as they say, is history.
