‘Viruthagiri’ - A Good Debut Attempt
Banner: Captain Cine Creations
Production: L.K. Sudeesh
Direction: Vijayakanth
Star-casts: Vijayakanth, Madhuri Idaki, Meenakshi Dikshit, Shankar, Arun Pandian, Mansoor Ali Khan, Peeli Sivam, Kalai Rani, Uma Padmanabhan, Shanmugarajan and Others
Music: Sundar C Babu
Captain Vijayakanth finds a better way to promote his political party much before the time of actual propaganda begins. It is through this film ‘Viruthagiri’ he finds such easiness in attracting the people. Final word? If you are a follower of Vijayakanth, you can go ahead and watch this film.
The film is about Viruthagiri (Vijayakanth), a tough and honest police officer found in the good pages of Interpol Department. Trapping down a terrorist in foreign country, he returns back to Chennai and handles several issues like attack on Indian students in Australia and transgender being mercilessly killed. Accordingly to seek revenge upon Viruthagiri, his nephew Priya (Madhuri Idaki) is kidnapped on her trip to Australia. Thalaivar now says to the kidnapper through the phone – If you don’t Priya go, I will come there for you. Make sure you are dead wherever you are.
How many times and how many directors would copy the Hollywood movie ‘Taken’. But Captain has made some tight screenplay by mixing the Hollywood story with the social issue of Australia India attack. Though the problem in Australia is somewhat different, Vijayakanth gives a note that the foreigners are jealous of Indian students. This is a truth to certain extent. The next positive thing about the film is the upliftment of transgender. Captain wanted to draw the attention of youth masses, especially students and yes the results are positive.
The first half is completely encompasses a wide range of propaganda by Vijayakanth while the second half is based on Hollywood movie ‘Taken’. Vijayakanth maintains a low profile with his stunts and looks energetic. But the dialogues are powerful and are always mounting towards his appraisal. Madhuri Idaki appears like just a modern girl and has nothing special to perform. Arun Pandian as the villain’s sidekick does justice to his role and Mansoor Ali Khan keeps evoking laughter with his funny liners.
Sundar C Babu’s musical score is average. Cinematography by Boopathy is appreciative. Stunts are well done and editing too is good in places. In the technical department, Late editor Saveen has excelled with his finest shots.he makes the screenplay look much tighter.
‘Viruthagiri’ is a movie that is specially meant for the fans of Captain Vijayakanth.
Verdict: Watch it Once
Rating: 5/10
