AR Rahman won Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum

Celebrated music director AR Rahman was on Wednesday honoured at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The music maestro received the Crystal Award at the summit conference for his contribution to the world of art and culture and for his outreach to improve the state of the world.
‘Countries that work to eradicate poverty and help the poor are the best,’ Rahman said at the annual summit of the forum at Davos after Hilde Schwab, president and co-founder of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, presented him with the award.
The award ceremony was attended by over 2,500 participants from over 11 countries representing business leaders, heads of governments and states, academicians, artists and faith leaders.
Some of the earlier recipients of this award are Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam danseuse Mallika Sarabhai, Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Sitar exponent Pandit Ravi Shankar and veteran actress Shabana Azmi.
