Saranya Ponvannan, who has been adjudged as the Best Actress of the Year for her stupendous performance in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, recently held a press meet in Chennai to celebrate her success. In the film, Saranya played the role of a struggling widow who is overtly affectionate and possessive of her son, as she brought him up without a partner's support.

"It's not often that a character artiste receives a National Award in the Best Actress category. The jury has valued actors based on their work, not on their status in the industry. The celebration is yet to begin," an elated Saranya said at the press meet. She also thanked director Cheenu Ramasamy for giving her this wonderful opportunity.
