The entire Kollywood is happy and delighted with K Balachander being conferred for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his exceptional contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema and especially South Film Industry.
The award will be presented to K Balachander by the First lady President Pratibha Patil later this year. This award has been given on the recommendations of a committee of eminent persons. The director is going to felicitated with Swarna Kamal, a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakhs and a shawl. Many film personalities felt that it has been too late but they are happy finally as he was conferred for one of the prestigious award.
Many unions of Tamil cinema are in plans to hold a mega function to felicitate Balachander as token of gratitude. The works of the felicitation function are going on and the date will be finalized very soon.
