The Chennai Police on Monday arrested Vanitha Vijayakumar for staging a hunger protest in front of her former husband Akash's house at Virugambakkam, demanding custody of their son Vijay Srihari.

The actress, who came to Akash's house on Monday, sat in front of the apartment complex along with her daughter and said that she would be on 'indefinite' fast. "He (Akash) is refusing is to obey the Court order on Vijay Srihari," she alleged.

On receiving information, Police officials rushed to the spot and asked Vanitha to drop the protest. As she refused to pay heed to the request, she was arrested. The actress was later let off on bail.

The Madras High Court ruled that Vijay Srihari would be with his father from Monday morning to Friday evening, when Akash would take the child to his mother's house after school. The child would remain with Vanitha till Monday morning.

"Akash has defied the court order and refused to send my son to me," alleged Vanitha.
