Salim Ahamed is one of the finest young directors in India who shot to fame with his critically acclaimed Adaminte Makan Abu which won many national awards including the best actor for Malayalam actor Salim Kumar.

The film is now India's official entry for the Oscars in the 'Best foreign film' category.
It seems Ahamed met Vikram who is passionate about good cinema. He explained to Vikram the finer aspects of the film as he wanted to make a different type of period historic film.

Salim Ahamed's film may get the green signal from a Hollywood studio, if Vikram is part of it.
Kunjali Marakkar was the title given to the (Muslim naval chief) of the Samoothiri Raja, a Hindu king of Kozhikode during the 16th century. They played a part in the Raja’s naval wars with the Portuguese from 1520 to 1600.

The director and Vikram wants to make it as realistic as possible, with no traces of super heroism for Kunjali Marakkar character.
