Actress Anuya has played a significant role in director Shankar's upcoming film Nanban. The film is the Tamil remake of the Bollywood hit film 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan in the lead.
The Tamil version stars Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana and Anuya. It also has veteran actor Sathyaraj playing the villain. Actor-director S.J. Suryah plays an important role in the film which has music by Harris Jayaraj.

Anuya's last outing in Tamil films was the Sundar C-starrer Nagaram which released last year. The film had hilarious comedy by Vadivelu in an otherwise intense action-packed script. Readers might recall that the Dubai-born Anuya Bhagwat a.k.a. Anuya debuted as heroine in Tami films opposite Jiiva in the 2009 hit film Siva Manasula Sakthi directed by debutant director Rajesh.

She then starred in choreographer-actor Harikumar's Madurai Sambavam in the same year followed by Nagaram. She had another non-starter Nanjupuram releasing a few months back but banks heavily on Nanban to give a new lease of life to her career which is at the crossroads at this present juncture. She claims that hers is an interesting and important role in the film and that it was a memorable experience to star in Shankar's direction.

Shankar rarely directs multi-starrers and as such, it's the first time he has directed a trio of heroes in this film. Anuya 'reveals' that the climatic sequence in the film centres solely on her character. "My role is quite a powerful one; though I play Ileana's elder sister, my role has offered me lot of scope to display my acting credentials. I'm sure once the film releases and does well at the box-office, I would be getting more and more good offers," says Anuya.
