Oscar winning musician A.R. Rahman recently congratulated Dam 999 music director Ouseppachan as three songs from the film have been shortlisted in the Original Song category for the 84th Academy awards.
‘Dakkanaga Dugu Dugu’, ‘Dam 999 Theme Song’ and ‘Mujhe Chhod Ke’ are among the 39 shortlisted songs for the prestigious Oscars and the final nominations will be announced on January 24, 2012.

But this has not gone well with some political parties in Tamil Nadu. Following this Rahman issued a statement to the media stating that his comments has been twisted. "But some people are twisting it out of context. This is regrettable," he stated in the statement.

Rahman also said that he respects the stand of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on this issue, who has favoured inter-linking of rivers to solve water problems.
