They made those historical hits with Tamil top legendaries like ‘Puratchi Thalaivar’ MGR and superstar Rajinikanth, big actors Muthurama...
They were the one of the few giant filmmakers, not only in Tamil also in other south Indian languages and in Hindi.
Now, the same big producer of banner ‘Devar Films’ is in a bad shape struggling to survive in the industry and even for their daily earning the owners of the production company is dependent on their agricultural income Mr. Dhandayuthapani, the only son of highly revered Santo Chinnappa Devar, the giant producer of Tamil cinema, is at his worst in life struggling to survive having only meager income even for his daily bread. “Devar Films was one of the few big production companies that made Tamil cinema prosper and in the city we had big bungalows, but now in the same Chennai we don’t have a small place to stay. We made big hit films with MGR and Rajinikanth. But, we are nothing now, struggling to survive. I wanted to go to Rajinikanth for help but this is not the right time as he is just recovering from his ill-health,” says Dhandayuthapani, who last produced superstar’s ‘Dharmaththin Thalaivan’ after a long lull in production!
MGR’s ‘Thaaiku Pin Thaaram’, ‘Vivasaayi’, ‘Nalla Neram’ and Rajini’s ‘Anbukku Naan Adimai’, ‘Annai Or Aalayam’, ‘Thaai Veedu’ and ‘Ranga’ were all made by Devar Films. The attempt to make a mammoth production, a 3D film in Tamil made the producers go bankrupt, sources say.
