When all the Thala fans were eagerly waiting to see their idol's 50th movie on screen , Venkat Prabhu came out with a sleek cut of Vilayadu Mankatha teaser which had every Thala fan screaming out of joy . The hip hop style song had every aspect to become to become a hit with Ajith's  salt and pepper look the song became a blockbuster and a dance mix of the same was added to the album . The voice modulations of Ranjith and other male singers brought freshness to the song adding extra advantage to the tune. Lyrics from Hindi, English and Tamil were used in this song to make the song even more peppy.

Kuviyamilla became the mantra when Ko teaser was on air. Special credits to Madhan Karky to explore some unused Tamil words that worked big time . Harris Jayaraj's tune and composition gave soul to the song . Aalap Raju gave the right start while Sri Charan and Prashathini carried the song and gave a great melody to the listeners. This tune had variations at right places and the song had some meaningful lyrics to back up the tune.Yenamo Edho didn't end there , this song was also a visual treat iwith Richard's amazing cinematography.This is one song which won't fade even now .

Evan di unna pethan from Vaanam marked the first successful single launch.Though Harris Jeyaraj's Lesa Lesa had a single launch , it didn't make much business out of the single . Evan di Unna Pethan was more like everyone's favorite which paved way for bigger business for the entire album as well as the movie . This song had fast beats while STR rocked with his very own style of simple lyrics that went on to become more like household property for youngsters . Girls were overwhelmed and went ga ga over the song even though the song had lyrics targeting girls.

Vaagai Sooda Vaa was an exceptional album this year which had everything for a period movie . A.R.Rahman's find Chinmayi  did wonders to tune of debutant music director Ghibran. Director Sarkunam added flavors to the song with appealing visuals and cute expressions of Iniya. Vairmuthu lyrics were much applauded after the audio was  released .Ghibran also received congratulatory messages from the Academy winner A.R.Rahman for his laudable work in this movie .

 
5. Chillax

Vijay Antony comes out with unique wordings and sounds every time . The word Chillax became famous with this peppy number from the album Velayudham . Sony Music which marketed the album made record breaking sales with this album . Karthik and Charulatha did bring quite a lot of energy to the song that gelled well with the lyrics and the tune  The visuals of this song also become a huge hit which  had  Ilathalapathy Vijay Vijay and Hansika dancing like dreams .

Not much songs with local flavor made it to the top , there are very few exceptions . Otha Sollala is the top of the list which had dappan kuthu kind of music with lyrics that explored happiness when someone accepts love proposal. The lungi dance  which was choreographed by Dinesh brought much acclaim and bagged National Award for best choreography.Vel Murugan added the native flavor to the song and received rave reviews.

Gone are days when songs were penned to respect feminines. songs which targeted female leads became instant hits this year . Kadhal En Kadhal from Mayakkam Enna is a song that falls under the category of simple tune targeting women .Ofcourse, all the lyrics intended only the characters in the movie . Selvaraghavan and Dhanush rocked in this number that was on repeat in most of the radio stations . Adi da avala Odha da Avala become too famous with people who had breakups . This song also stressed the importance of  friendship over love and the difficulties people face while in love.

 
8. Mun Andhi Saaral

The much hyped 7aum Arivu had usual Harris Jayaraj melody touch . Mun Andhi Saraal is the best melody number from the movie which had equal proportion of  lyrics, voices  and Visuals. Ravi K Chandran captured some awesome locales with the Surya and Shruthi Hasaan that made a huge impact visually. Karthik is one singer who delivers continuous hit and tries different genres while Megha made sure she matches with her vocal presence .

Prabhu Deva's Engeyum Kaadhal had seven different tracks that reached the masses . Though the movie didn't click at the box office  , the song set the collections ticking . Nangaai was shot in different locales and emphaized the importance for Tamil. Vaali lyrics made this song memorable while choreography on the lead was also equally good . The singers crooned their best vocals for this song which had different pitches . Naangai also featured a small Dappan Kuthu track in the middle which was also appreciated .

 
10. Mazhai Varum Ariguri

Joshua Sridhar  impressed everyone with this debut album Kadhal after not so good albums he is back with Veppam . Mazhai Varum Ariguri is a tempting melody and Suzanne D'Mello is  the best choice for such a romantic number which had mesmerizing lyrics from Na.Muthukumar. The song made it to the top of the charts ,while  the movie failed to do so.
