The immense popularity of the song Why this Kolaveri di…. has stumped and stunned the entire Unit of the upcoming film 3.
The film marks the directorial debut of Aishwarya and pairs Shruti Haasan opposite Dhanush. One of the film’s songs, Why this Kolaveri di… penned and sung by Dhanush and set to score by debutant music director Anirudh, has become the most popular song in recent times.

The song is even played in some North Indian FM radio stations, thanks to the huge popularity it enjoys on the net. By YouTube’s own admission, the song has received as many as 18 million hits on its website, which is an Indian record. After observing this unprecedented response to the song, Aishwaya is said to be thinking over time to film a matching video for the song in the film’s final version.

The shooting of 3 is almost finished with a few song sequences remaining to be shot. Aishwarya and Velraj, the cinematographer, are said to be planning in a hectic manner as to how the video portion of the song sequences should be shot as it should match the immense popularity the song has garnered in the past fortnight or so.

The audio of the song has become so popular that film-makers in many languages want to repeat the tune in their films. The royalty for all these ‘dealings’ would have to go to the composer who is Dhanush. It is also said that Selvaa purposely tweeted on the Net that it was Dhanush who composed the song so that Dhanush didn’t need to share the royalty amount with him.
