FEFSI withdraws strike

After the uneasy stalemate that culminated in very tense moments yesterday, labor minister Chellapandian held separate talks with representatives of the Producers’ Council and FEFSI.
It is learnt that the minister disapproved of the continuing strike and recommended to call it off and continue with dialogues without disrupting the shooting of films.

Following this request from the Minister, FEFSI has decided to join shooting duties from tomorrow. However, the issues between FEFSI and the Producers’ Council still persist as wage restructuring of at least 8 unions of FEFSI is still pending. It is expected that talks on thesse issues will be held soon, without any of this affecting the shooting schedules.

The Film Employees Federation of India (FEFSI), who had been abstaining from works for sometime over a tussle with the Producers' Council, has called off their strike now!

The crucial decision came after the State Government's intervention in the standoff between the two warring factions. State Labour Minister S T Chellapandian held discussions with both the unions on Tuesday and asked FEFSI to call off their strike to enable smooth talks between them. Heeding to the Minister's call the workers union announced their decision of calling off the strike and agreed to cooperate with the filmmakers.

With FEFSI calling off the strike it is expected all the works – the film shoots and the post-production works – would resume from today. The FEFSI and the Producers' Council are to continue their talks under the aegis of the state Government's Labour Ministry to solve the wage revision issue.

FEFSI has been in a tussle with the Producers Council in the matter of their salary as the union is demanding a higher salary and other demands that the producers are not agreeing. The standoff between the factions intensified last week when FEFSI announced a fresh strike not only in films but also in the small screen industry.
