Some movies have the misfortune of pining in the cans for a long, really long time. Leelai, that went on floors in late 2008 and was wrapped up in 2010, is one such. Although the movie looked promising, for myriad unfortunate reasons, it never saw the light of the day in the past two years. Now, as it seems, the producer Aascar Ravichandran has finally brought it up for release.

Written and directed by Andrew Louis, Leelai stars Shiv Pandit and Manasi Parekh in lead roles. Tamil as a language is alien to both of them as thayir sadam is for a north Indian, but since this is a story that has the IT angle in the backdrop, it's hoped that Andrew has made the right casting decision. However, Shiv and Manasi are said to have undergone rigorous language lessons to get the language right. Shiv Pandit is an up and coming actor who was last seen in last year's Shaitan and in quite a few advertisements. He also won a few awards for his negative character in Shaitan.

Leelai was shot in and around Chennai, Pondy and Goa. In Chennai, since the movie is a love story of people working in an IT company, it was shot in the premises of IT giant HCL. Director Andrew had worked with S J Surya before and Leelai is his first movie as a full fledged director. The movie also has experienced hands like cinematographer Velraj and dance master Brinda. Leelai is composed by Sathish Chakravarthy of Kanimozhi fame and some of the numbers have remained in the chartbusters list for a long time.

Andrew says that Leelai is an exquisite mixture of romance and comedy. Chances are that Leelai could gain prominence in the box office in the weekend that somewhat marks the beginning of the summer vacation.
