Not a big Friday for Kollywood!

Dry Friday witnessed release of ‘small’ films
After the past 4-5 weeks which witnessed the release of some big-budget films starring leading stars in the form of Ajith’s Billa-2, Karthi’s Saguni and S.S. Rajamouli’s Naan Eee, this Friday (yesterday, the 27th July) turned out to be a rather dreary-looking one with no big films hitting the screens.

In keeping with the tradition followed in Kollywood of releasing at least one or two films every week, a few films did release yesterday which included Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakkathilae, Suzhal and a thriller titled Pollangu. Now that Karthi’s Saguni is in its fifth week and Ajith’s Billa-2 has entered its third week (at whichever halls they were screened), they are slowly giving way to these ‘small-budget’ films.

An English film titled Ice Age-4 also hit the screens yesterday and has been targeted mainly at the children. Significantly enough, the number of theatres in which this film has been released is almost equal to that of a regular Tamil film, which is an indicator of the growing clout of English films in the State.

The trend of ‘small films’ hitting the screens is expected to continue for a couple of more weeks till the 15th of August which marks the anniversary of the country’s 65th Independence Day on which some major films are slated to hit the screens.
