Y G Mahendran remakes Sivaji film with Santhanam!

We hear that actor Y Gee Mahendran is planning to remake the 1982 film Paritchaiku Neramaachu. The original movie had Sivaji Ganesan playing an orthodox father, while Y Gee played his son. But here’s the big news. He has zeroed in on comedian Santhanam to be part of the remake.
Talking to CT, Mahendra said, “Yes, Santhanam and I have talked about the prospect of remaking the film. The remake, when it happens, will have me in Nadigar Thilagam’s role, while Santhanam will play the son’s role.” The actor added that the comedian, who is busy with over half-a-dozen projects, is quite “keen to do the film”.

When we contacted the comedian, he too confirmed the news.
“Yes, we discussed it when I went to watch Y Gee Mahendra’s play. But the talks are still at a very nascent stage,” said Santhanam.

From stage to screen

Paritchaikku Neramaachu was adapted from a stage play written by Vietman Veedu Sundaram. It was staged first by Y Gee Mahendra’s drama troupe and became a success. Impressed by it, Muktha V Srinivasan made it into a film. Sivaji Ganesan’s role as Nadathur Narasimhachari, an orthodox Brahmin, was much appreciated.
