Director Thiru’s second film with Vishal in the lead, Samar is an action-adventure flick. The film has been shot extensively in Bangkok and the crew says that it has been a mentally draining experience for them.
The team led by the art director Jack used to hangout quite often, to get out of the impact of shooting for the film. The film apparently has several psychic shots which were mentally draining not only for the actor but also for the crew.

Vishal plays the role of a forest trekking guide and is shown in two different characters in the film. The film has several high octane action sequences choreographed by four stunt masters. Thailand based stunt director Nung has choreographed the portions shot in overseas and other stunt directors include Genie, Kanal Kannan and Rajasekar.

Trisha is the leading lady of the film and the led pair’s chemistry is something to look forward to. It has to be recalled that Vishal had earlier wanted to cast Trisha in four of his earlier films, which included Sathyam, Thoranai, Theeradha Vilayattu Pillai and Vedi, which did not materialise. Trisha’s role is very significant in Samar and her characterisation has equal weight as that of the hero’s. Manoj Bajpai and JD Chakarvarthy are doing important roles.

Sunaina is another actress to look forward to and most of her portions were shot in Ooty. The lyrics are by Na Muthukumar and Kapilan and the music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The re-recording of the film is progressing in Malaysia. Noted dialogue write Ramakrishnan has written the dialogues for the film.

Thiru is known for his romantic comedy style of film making and when Vishal was quizzed as to why he chose Thiru leaving out other directors who are known for their action flicks, Vishal said, “ I am neither a winner nor a loser. I am a chooser and hence the decision.”
