Mani Ratnam sues 'Kadal' distributor!
The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted an interim injunction until further orders restraining distributors of the Tamil film ‘Kadal’ (‘Kadali’ in Telugu) from entering the residential and office premises of film producer and director Maniratnam.

Justice R. Sudhakar passed the order on an application in a civil suit by Madras Talkies, represented by its partner, Mr. Maniratnam at R.A.Puram, and his wife Suhasini. The Judge also said there would be an interim injunction until further orders restraining the distributors from damaging the applicant’s reputation by indulging in motivated acts.

In the application, filed through counsel Abudukumar Rajaratnam, Mr. Maniratnam submitted that he directed the film ‘Kadal.’ He made efforts to make the film a commercial success. The film was released on February 1 this year. A few persons claiming themselves to be distributors were spreading falsehood about the film’s quality.

On February 9 and 22, when he was not in office, a group of persons claiming themselves to be the agent of one Mannan, a distributor, entered the premises and enquired about him for settlement of the alleged loss sustained by them in the distribution of the film. Maniratnam alleged that the group threatened his staff. Due to the action and inaction of distributor, without any basis, his goodwill had been damaged to a great extent.
