"I was very impressed when director Neson met me and narrated the script when I was shooting for Velayudham." - Vijay
Mollywood superstar Mohan Lal will be sharing screen space with Vijay in the film. The term `Jilla’ is used in and around Madurai where the film is set. It refers to specific areas and also denotes `one who leads a group’. Here, it is Vijay, whose character’s name is Shakthi, a native of the region, who will be addressed as `Jilla’.
Vijay, who has completed more than 50 films in K’town in a 20-year career span, says, "Many important films, like Love Today, Thullatha Manamun Thullum and Thiruppachi, were produced by Choudhary sir’s banner, Supergood Films. I am very happy to work with him after a gap of eight years." He expects Jilla too to be a significant addition to his body of work. "I was very impressed when Neson met me and narrated the script when I was shooting for Velayudham. It just started as a suggestion, this fascinating combo of me and Mohanlal sir. He is major plus for the film. He spoke to me from Kerala a couple of times and said he liked the script."
Apparently, Imman who started his film career with a Vijay film, Tamizhan, is scoring the music for Jilla. It is his 10th year in the Tamil film industry . Vijay says he had enjoyed the melodies by Imman in Mynaa and Kumki. "I am confident that he will bring a new sound to his compositions in Jilla as well," he says.

Vijay is not about to let on too much. "I haven’t heard the story completely," says the Thalaivaa star. "The director will be a better person to reply to this query ."
*Post Thuppakki’s success Kajal Agarwal is being paired with Vijay in Jilla. Poornima Bhagyaraj, who, when she started her career in the film industry, had had Mohan Lal as her first co-star, was thrilled about getting a second innings on the Tamil screen. "More than me, my son Shanthanu, who is a big fan of Vijay’s, jumped at the offer when I got a call f r o m Choudhary sir.
He said, `What are you waiting for when all you have to do with a Vijay-starrer is to say yes?’."
*Jiiva, who was present at the mahurat, as a producer, says, "I am speaking on behalf of my dad and producer Choudhary. Vijay sir used to be very serious while shooting, which I noticed when we did Nanban together. Hereafter, I am going to regularly visit the sets and entertain him to ease out things. Jokes apart, I have grown watching all his films. This year will be an exciting phase for me."
*Thambi Ramaiah, Mahat and Soori are also part of the cast. Bollywood cinematographer Natraj is on board. The film, which is expected to go on the floors this May, is slated for a Pongal release.
