As Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam gears up to hit screens today, the makers of the film state that the audience will get to see exciting facets of village life and interesting characterizations of Sivakarthikeyan and Sathyaraj.

Says Siva, “My character, Bosepandi, is the complete opposite of what I am — he’s carefree, naughty and acts as if the whole village is dependent on him. He has a problem if people don’t use his photo in a banner, irrespective of his connection with the function! He runs a club, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, along with Soori. And their only purpose in life is to lock horns with elders.”

Sathyaraj plays Sivanandi, the ‘periya thala’ in the village. “For him, honour is most important,” says director Ponram, “But problems arise between him and Sivakarthikeyan over an act in the tiruvizha. While Sivanandi and the other elders want to stage Valli Thirumana Nadagam, Bose is keen on getting a troupe to perform to filmi numbers. To make matters worse, Bose falls for Sivanandi’s daughter, played by Sri Divya.”

The film, says producer Madan, will have humour and romance in equal dose. “While Sathyaraj and Siva’s face-off will keep the audience in splits, the two love stories will also evoke laughter,.” Two love stories? “Yes. The heroine’s pet cow also has a romantic angle! Also, the cow helps in creating a romantic bond between the hero and heroine,” Ponram says.
