Vankkam Chennai starring Shiva, Priya Anand and Santhanam in the lead roles has hit the screens today.
But the film which is produced by Udayanidhi Stalin's Redi Giant Movies and directed by his wife Kiruthiga Udayanidhi has not been granted tax exemption. It is to be noted that Vanakkam Chennai has also been censored with a clean U certificate.
Udayanidhi Stalin has tweeted, "Vanakkam Chennai Entertainment tax exemption rejected as expected. One govt. official who signed in favour of Vanakkam Chennai transferred immediately."
Red Giant Movies will be filing a petition in the Madras High Court today, seeking a direction to the Tamil Nadu government to provide tax exemption. He had tweeted, "Celebrating 100yrs of tamil cinema! Vanakkam Chennai Red Giant will go to court for entertainment tax exemption! Hope for the best! I don't know what the courts verdict will be today. But I will not go down without challenging the governments order!"
'Oru Kal Oru Kannadi' and 'Neer Paravai' produced by Red Giant Movies were also denied tax exemptions. Denial of the tax exemption would result in a 30 per cent loss from the collections.
