Tamil hit movie Soodhu Kavvum (in pic) will be remade into Hindi by hit film-maker Rohit Shetty. The movie will go on the floors mid 2014...
This will be the first independent movie to be produced by Rohit Shetty under his own banner Rohit Shetty Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
The movie will be a joint venture between Rohit Shetty and Kannada producer Rockline Venkatesh and veteran Tamil actor Arun Pandiyan, who hold the Hindi remake rights. The joint venture agreement was signed in Mumbai on Thursday.
At present, Rohit is busy with Singham 2, which will go on the floors in January 2014. Singham 2 is not a remake of the Tamil sequel Singham 2; Rohit has written the story for Singham 2, which will have Ajay Devgan in the lead role.
Apparently, Rohit was impressed with the Soodhu Kavvum plot and had evinced interest to produce/direct it in Hindi under his own banner. UTV Movies, Fox Movies and Endemol India were also keen on acquiring the Hindi remake rights of Soodhu Kavvum. However, the movie has fallen into the laps of Rohit. The Hindi version will undergo extensive tweaking of the plot in the second half.
At present, actor Imran Khan and Shraddha Kapoor are in the reckoning for the lead pair of the Hindi version. Kannada actor Sudeep’s name is also being proposed for the role reprised by Vijay Sethupathi in the original version.
Rohit Shetty is the only Hindi film director in recent times to direct two successful Tamil movies. As of now, Rohit Shetty is keen on directing the remake version, which is unlikely to be a Rs 100 budget movie for which the film-maker is famous for.
However, the director is under tremendous pressure to work with Shah Rukh Khan after Singham 2. In that case, the task of directing Soodhu Kavvum could go to director Shimit Amin (who directed Chakde India!).
