A city-based boxer had knocked the doors of the City Police Commissioner seeking to impose a ban on Sivakarthikeyan starrer 'Maan Karate' citing that boxing had been portrayed in bad-light by the makers.

The petition presented by J Krishnamoorthy, secretary and coach of JKM Boxing Club, claimed that the movie, which has boxing as its central theme, damaged the image of the sport.

The movie makers had also used the name of the Tamil Nadu Boxing Association (TNBA) as host of the boxing tourney sequence in the film without taking adequate permission from them. The TNBA is attached to Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority.

"Many such scenes had made its way into the movie tarnishing the image of the sport and it will pollute the the minds of the youth who want to take up this sport as their career", he said.

He urged the City Police to impose a ban on the movie and also initiate action against the Director and scriptwriter Thirukumaran, producer AR Murugadoss and the film's hero Sivakarthikeyan in this regard.

The movie which recently hit the screens is co-starred with Hansika Motwani and Vamsi, with the storyline of a non-boxer becoming a boxer and beating the villain.
