‘Vaayai Moodi Pesavum’, the surprise sleeper hit

Vaayai Moodi Pesavum
Small is beautiful, and so is quirky. Sleeper hits come seemingly out of nowhere. They are films which take a slow start, that confound expectations, attract enthusiastic audiences who happily spread the word, resulting in box office returns that dwarf their modest budgets.

Varun Manian's Radiance Media along with YNot Studios' Sashikanth produced and Balaji Mohan directed Vaayai Moodi Pesavum was the launch pad for Mammootty's son Dulquer Salmaan(who is already a big star in Malayalam) in Tamil. The film which released on May 9, after taking a soft opening picked up purely on word-of-mouth and is today a sleeper hit.

Vaayai Moodi Pesavum appealed more to the elite upmarket multiplex audiences who encouraged the film. A major chunk of its share came from the 3C's in the trade – Chennai city, Chengalpet and Coimbatore.

Says a beaming Varun Manian: "A great script, a controlled budget and aggressive marketing and distribution makes for a winning combination. I am extremely glad that Vaayai Moodi Pesavum was accepted by the audiences who we had targeted and the unanimous positive reviews it garnered. So I am convinced that success is guaranteed if you peddle good content with able marketing"
